Turkey & Greece - poems

Cappadocia

Balloons
fill morning skies
wafting above tufa
billowing like sweet meringue on
brown hills.

I float
suspended in
the air over fairy
chimneys inhaling, exhaling
 and soaring.

Delos

So many feet have smoothed these stones
sandaled, barefoot, sneakered, booted

days, decades, centuries, millennia
leave their mark on pathways where

spectral children play in narrow streets
ghostly women gossip in the agora

camera-wielding tourists wander
through skeletons of temples

and forgotten gods peer up
 from toppled pedestals weeping
